    A New Era in International Education in Somalia: The First Official Oxford International Curriculum & IGCSE/A-Level Examination Center Has Been Opened

    Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools hosted an important ceremony today, marking a significant step in strengthening quality and internationally standardized education in Somalia. During the event, the first official “Oxford International Curriculum & IGCSE/A-Level International Examination Center” in Somalia was inaugurated. At the same time, a certificate award ceremony was held for students who successfully completed the Oxford International Curriculum program.The ceremony was attended by H.E. Nura Mustaf, Minister of State for Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Republic of Somalia; H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation; H.E. Ali Omar Balcad, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; H.E. Mohamed Osman Nastaro, Minister of State for Women and Human Rights Development; Hon. Mohamed Ahmed Beerey, Member of the Somali Federal Parliament; Prof. Osman Mohamud Dufle, academic and Member of Parliament; Mr. İdle İbrahim Süleyman, Advisor to the President of Somalia; H.E. Alper Aktaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Mogadishu; Brigadier General Sebahattin Kalkan, Commander of the Somali-Turkish Task Force (TÜRKSOM); Mr. Selçuk Baş, TMF Country Director in Somalia; and distinguished university rectors including Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Mohamed (Somali National University), Dr. Ibrahim Mursal (Mogadishu University), Dr. Abdikarim Muhidin Ahmed (SIMAD University), and Mr. Ahmed Gedi (Vice-Rector, Zamzam University).The event began with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the establishment of the international examination infrastructure at the TMF Somali Schools KM4 Campus. Following the ceremony, guests toured the school’s classrooms, physics and chemistry laboratories, computer lab, library, and exam halls where the Oxford examinations are conducted , receiving detailed information about the ongoing educational activities. The visit showcased both the comprehensive educational ecosystem that TMF has built in Somalia and the facilities designed to prepare students for international examinations.After the host’s welcoming remarks, the program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the National Anthem of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Turkish National Anthem, observed in respect and unity.Before the formal speeches, guests watched a short documentary introducing the Türkiye Maarif Foundation’s educational activities in Somalia, highlighting its work from preschool to high school, international programs, and opportunities provided to Somali youth.The opening address was delivered by Mr. Selçuk Baş, TMF Country Director in Somalia, who emphasized that the Türkiye Maarif Foundation serves as the educational representative of the friendship between Türkiye and Somalia. He underlined that the newly inaugurated IGCSE & A-Level Examination Center will allow Somali students to take internationally recognized exams without having to leave their country.Following him, H.E. Alper Aktaş, Ambassador of Türkiye to Mogadishu, took the stage and noted that Türkiye’s support for education in Somalia continues in an institutional and sustainable manner, with the Türkiye Maarif Foundation standing as one of the most visible symbols of this partnership.H.E. Nura Mustaf , Minister of State for Education, Culture and Higher Education, highlighted that the Maarif Schools offer a model of education that combines academic excellence with strong moral values and a global perspective. She stated that the collaboration between the Somali government and the Türkiye Maarif Foundation holds strategic importance for nurturing the country’s well-equipped and forward-looking youth.H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali , Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, also addressed the audience, emphasizing that the educational work carried out by TMF in Somalia is not merely a service, but a tangible expression of the brotherhood between the two nations. He noted that education institutions such as Maarif play a vital role in building trust, stability, and the future of Somali society.After the speeches, the program moved to its most anticipated part — the certificate presentation for students who successfully completed the Oxford International Curriculum. The ceremony was held in an atmosphere of pride and joy, as students received their certificates from Somali ministers, the Turkish ambassador, TMF representatives, university rectors, and other distinguished guests.Through this event, the KM4 Campus once again demonstrated its unique educational model that harmonizes Somalia’s national curriculum with international academic programs. Throughout the ceremony, speakers emphasized that the Türkiye Maarif Foundation’s efforts in Somalia enable students to grow not only academically, but also as bilingual, value-oriented, and globally competent individuals. The newly inaugurated IGCSE & A-Level Examination Center was noted as a significant step that will allow Somali students to access internationally recognized exams without leaving their home country, meeting a long-standing educational need.

In this first issue, we have gathered our educational initiatives that build bridges between Somalia and Türkiye, our values-based educational approach, and the diverse activities taking place in our schools.The articles, projects, and events featured in our bulletin reflect the essence of the educational efforts we carry out in Somalia. As the Maarif family, our goal is not only to achieve academic success but also to nurture exemplary individuals in moral values, cultural awareness, and human development. On every page of this bulletin, you will find traces of our dedication to expanding access to knowledge, inspiring young minds, and raising individuals who look to the future with hope.     Republic Day Celebrated with Great Enthusiasm at Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools

    The 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye was celebrated with great pride and enthusiasm at the Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools’ Banadir and KM4 campuses. The programs, attended by students, teachers, and administrators, emphasized the significance of the Republic and further strengthened the bond of friendship between the two brotherly nations, Türkiye and Somalia.The ceremony at the Banadir Campus began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the Turkish National Anthem and the Somali National Anthem, sung with great spirit. School Principal Osman Uysal delivered a speech highlighting the importance of the day and the everlasting value of the Republic, emphasizing the role of students in carrying this awareness into the future. Primary and middle school students watched an animated film about the meaning of Republic Day, adding color to the celebration. They also recited Turkish and Somali poems and compositions centered on the theme of October 29. At the end of the ceremony, the Grade 4B students, who became champions of the school tournament, joyfully received their trophy from the Physical Education teacher. The winning students were also presented with gifts by their class teacher Ismail Ibrahim, School Principal Osman Uysal, Vice Principals Ayub Omar Ali and Muna Jaylani Ali, and Turkish Language teacher Talha Kara.The ceremony at KM4 Campus also began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the Turkish and Somali National Anthems. Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somalia Director of Human Resources and External Relations, Mr. Mohamud Mohamed Sheikh Ali, delivered a speech emphasizing the historical and ongoing friendship and cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye.Vice Principal Muhammed Abdi also delivered a meaningful speech on the importance of the Republic and encouraged students to uphold its values.High school and middle school students performed poems and an oratorio, expressing their enthusiasm for Republic Day. The program concluded with the screening of a documentary about the Republic of Türkiye. The Republic Day celebrations, held with great excitement at both campuses, strengthened the students’ commitment to national and moral values. Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools continue to keep the spirit and light of the Republic alive in Somalia.

    1st Term Parent-Teacher Meeting Held at Banadir Campus

    On October 23, 2025, the first parent meeting of the first term of the 2025–2026 academic year was held at the Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools Banadir Campus. The meeting began in the school conference hall with a large attendance of parents. The program opened with a speech by our school principal, Mr. Osman Uysal. In his address, Mr. Uysal spoke about the global educational activities of the Maarif Foundation, the ongoing projects in Somalia, and the educational goals of the Banadir Campus. He emphasized the importance of learning the Turkish language and encouraged parents to motivate their children in this regard. He also highlighted the crucial role of cooperation between the school and parents in enhancing students’ academic and personal development. Following the opening speech, our vice principals, Mr. Ayub Omar Ali and Ms. Muna Jaylani Ali, delivered their presentations. They shared the educational policies to be implemented throughout the 2025–2026 school year, reviewed exam results, discussed the new homework policy, and presented strategies to strengthen collaboration between parents and teachers. Parents were given practical examples and advice on how to support their children’s success at home. In addition, a new subject-based weekly homework schedule designed to reinforce students’ learning processes was introduced. During the meeting, the teachers who recently joined the school also introduced themselves to the parents. Afterward, parents had the opportunity to express their opinions and questions during an interactive Q&A session with the school administration. In the second part of the program, after a short refreshment break, individual parent–teacher meetings were held in classrooms. Parents received personalized feedback from teachers regarding their children’s academic performance. At the end of the meeting, the school administration expressed gratitude to all parents for their participation, emphasizing that students’ success can only be achieved through the joint efforts of the school, parents, and teachers. As Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools Banadir Campus, we highly value the contribution of our parents to the educational process. We sincerely thank all parents who attended and supported this meeting and wish our students a successful, healthy, and productive school term.

    1st Term Parent-Teacher Meeting Held at KM4 Campus

    On October 23, 2025, the first term parent-teacher meeting of the 2025–2026 academic year was held at the Türkiye Maarif Foundation Somali Schools KM4 Campus. The meeting provided a productive platform that brought together students, teachers, and parents to strengthen collaboration and review the educational process.The program began in the conference hall with a presentation by the vice principal, who provided detailed information about the activities carried out since the beginning of the term and the plans for the remainder of the semester. Students’ academic achievements were presented through visual graphs, and updates were shared on the school’s social and cultural programs.Following the presentation, parents had the opportunity to ask questions and share their opinions about school and educational activities. After the main session, refreshments were offered to our guests.Parents then met individually with teachers to discuss their children’s academic progress and personal development. The meeting concluded with mutual satisfaction and warm wishes. As KM4 Campus, we believe in the importance of school–family cooperation in supporting our students’ academic and personal growth. We thank all our parents for their active participation and continued support.

    Favori Airports Country Director Mr. Mustafa Durgut visited our KM4 Campus and the Turkish Maarif Foundation Somalia Office.During the visit, he was briefed on the educational activities and projects carried out by the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Somalia. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, where the parties exchanged views on ongoing educational efforts and potential areas of cooperation. As the Turkish Maarif Foundation, we continue our efforts to build lasting bridges of friendship and cooperation between brotherly nations through education.
